I’m Back!
Dec 22nd
Posted by Daniel Clark in 3 - Painful
It has been a long time since I posted anything here. I finally found (or I should say my doctor) a medicine that actually works on controlling my A.S. and R.A. I am still on Morphine and Celebrex but Humira is the work horse that is keeping me mobile. I should be returning to work in January of 2011! No more showing up late or half days from being sick (fingers crossed). These are my worst months and so far, I am not that bad. I still hurt but nothing like it was before and during October. Things are looking good, lets hope it continues!

Tired
Mar 29th
Posted by Daniel Clark in 3 - Painful
Feeling really tired and drained. Finally for once though I can report that I am only aching and nothing is locked up. My best friend is very sick (Rusty). Not sure whats going on with that. Coming off of Oxycontin or at least trying to slow down on it now that I am not in severe pain is a bitch. It all sucks…

Nurses

I know many of you have heard or read some like these…but here are some I haven’t seen before. The crazy thing about this list is that my wife has mentioned or told a story regarding most of every thing listed here. The fact that there is over 170 of them and someone not in the profession can relate or know of a bunch of these is even better.
- The front of you scrubs read: ‘Nurses…here to save your ass, not kiss it!’
- You occasionally park in the space with the ‘Physicians Only’ sign, and knock it over.
- You’ve ever told a patient to ‘move toward the light.’
- You believe that all the patient needs is some vitamin A (ativan)
- You’ve ever run out of linens, syringes, IV fluid, meds, and patience all at the same time
- You ever felt like a Gastroenterologist… because you work with a##holes
- It IS as BAD as you think, and the patients ARE out to get you
- You ever told a patient he didn’t need to be dead to donate an organ
- You feel that earth is the insane asylum for the universe
- You believe some patients are alive only because it’s illegal to kill them
- In a critical situation, the most highly qualified clinician will offer the most advice and the least support.
- You do the “only-27-more-minutes-of-the-shift-from-hell happy dance”
- When you need the money, your shift is cancelled; ….when you have a weekend planned, you have to do overtime.
- You believe sick people don’t $itch
- You believe the more equipment you see on a nurses belt, the newer they are.
- You believe when dealing with patients, supervisors, or citizens, if it felt good saying it, it was the wrong thing to say.
- You believe If the child is quiet, be scared.
- You always follow the rules, but be wise enough to forget them sometimes.
- You believe if the patient vomits in the ED, try to hold their head to the side of the stretcher with the disposable equipment, not the stuff you have to clean.
- You believe any family member who is more drunk (or more stupid) than the patient, is the real problem.
- You can’t cure stupid.
- You believe if it’s wet and sticky and not yours, leave it alone!
- You believe that idiots that get into car crashes are the first ones to complain how bumpy the ambulance ride is.
- You believe when a patient vomits, be sure to aim it at the family members who wouldn’t back up.
- You never trust crash cart, drug box or airway bag to be fully stocked. More >
Endoscopy
Feb 11th
Posted by Daniel Clark in 3 - Painful
This 18th, I have to go and get a endoscopy done. They are looking for anything abnormal and ulcers. I lost 20 pounds in about 2 weeks. I was down to 176 pounds. Reason was I quit eating since everything I ate and or drank at any time felt like it was going to come back up. The sickness has lasted about a month so far until I started taking the stomach medicine.
The G.I. Doctor said he thinks its ulcers but if they are they don’t feel like normal ulcers from when I had them before. Ulcers were painful when you got hungry and went away after you ate. I am having the exact opposite now. When I eat or drink I get sick, almost to the point of throwing up. They still think its ulcers though… We’ll see (literally) I guess on the 18Th.

Never ends…
Jan 19th
Posted by Daniel Clark in 9 - Unbareable Painfull
My pain never ends. This last weekend, both Saturday and Sunday mornings were horrible. Both hands/fingers completely frozen. Locked up to the point that I could not open my hands at all. I would start to try and open them and then they would stick and pain shoots all the way up both arms. My knee’s were also swollen. If I sat down for more then 5 minutes, I would have serious trouble getting up to a standing position on my own. The pain pills (OxyContin) is not working like it should any more. I figure my body has built up an immunity to it making it ineffective. I think I am going to try and have my doctor change my medications to see if that helps any (and if he even does it). I have so much shit to do yet I can’t do it in this condition. I am so sick of feeling like this that it is driving me insane. Fucking INSANE!

Fucking hurting today…
Dec 7th
Posted by Daniel Clark in 5 - Moderatly Painful
Man am I fucking hurting today. Both hands are swollen and its hard to type. Today, the first real snow fell. Probably why I hurt so bad. Theres not enough OxyContin I can take to rid this pain (trust me, I tried). I am sure it helps, not sure I want to imagine myself with out it. I have enough corti-steriods in me to make Lou Ferrigno seem like a baby. I no longer have the good insurance that covers Enbrel or the other $2200 a month script that would make my life easier. Go figure. I am back to basics including the sickning Methatrexate chemo drug that I am seriously consider taking again.

Daily Pain
Aug 7th
Posted by Daniel Clark in 6 - Painful
No surprise, yet another painful day. This time, my right arm from the elbow to the last joint in my finger are swollen and painful to move. Don’t get me wrong, all my joints hurt, just others way more painful then the rest. I am getting sick and tired of having to wake up like this. It really sucks not able to move in the morning when you first wake up especially if you have to take a piss. Standing up and taking a piss hurts my legs and arms to just stand there and seems like I have to stand there for ever to get done. I take my pain meds immediately but they don’t kick in for about an hour after I take them. So I sit or lay around in agony until they enter my system. Once that is complete, I can continue to get ready for work. I tell you, if it was not for Kim, I’d be dead and that no exaggeration. Also if it wasn’t for the Prozac, I would be totally insane. Every morning, the same bullshit, some days I just get so fucking pissed… but most of the time I can deal with it except those rare times it just gets to me. This is one of those days. I’m done venting now.

Sick… Again…
Dec 4th
Posted by Daniel Clark in AS/RA Report
I missed work today. I woke up and could not move my legs and or my elbows. AS/RA had set in over night due to a few reasons I believe. I quit taking prednisone over the weekend due to high blood pressure and high/low blood sugars. Also, the the weather kicked in too. It started snowing and got very cold. Not sure which was more at fault but either way it hurts like hell and disables a lot of the shit that I can do. I am so sick of feeling like this that it pisses me off. Nothing I can do about it. I am sleeping a lot more for some reason too. Probably the reason why I can not sleep right not at almost 2AM.
